Stepping into 2026, I suddenly realize that I’ve already been working at the St. Louis School (Primary Section) for nearly a year and a half. Thinking back to when I first set foot in the school, I immediately resonated with Don Bosco’s philosophy—walking alongside young people, with love and companionship as the foundation. Yet, I have never been good at sports. How could I possibly play football or basketball with the kids out on the court? Then one day, seeing the particularly spacious principal’s office, a thought suddenly came to me…

Even though my salary had not yet been paid at the time, I quickly dipped into my own pocket to urgently buy a refrigerator. Many people found it strange—was not a new desk the most essential item for a principal? Could it be that this newly arrived principal really loved frozen food that much?

When the large refrigerator was delivered, I immediately rushed to buy boxes of ice cream to fill it up. Then I kept inviting students to come in for lunch, handing out ice cream coupons one after another. I encouraged them to drop by the principal’s office from time to time, hoping they would open up, speak freely, share their joys, and unload their burdens without barriers.

Unexpectedly, from then on the nickname “Ice Cream Principal” began to spread. Sometimes students would jokingly ask me: “Principal, are you very rich?” After all, during a single lunch break, many unexpected guests might show up, and even without coupons, I couldn’t bear to turn them away. But when it came to wealth, the children gradually came to understand. They saw me eating nothing more than a simple slice of bread spread with peanut butter for lunch every day, and they realized that what I pursued was not material wealth, but richness of spirit.

Squeezing together with many children in the principal’s office, watching them happily chat away without restraint—what a joyful thing that is! Most importantly, I want the children to feel that the school is filled with love, just as Jesus emphasized: “Let the children come to me.” I know I could never be a stern, imposing principal. I only hope to be close to the children, to build a harmonious and trusting relationship, so that they may grow in an environment of love, develop confidence, and most importantly, learn through love. My hope is to truly realize the vision of preventive education!
